Upcoming Courses Watch It’s only 2 short weeks until we run our next Open Water Course. If you are interested in learning how to dive, and get certified to dive anywhere in the world, this is your chance. It allows you to dive to a max depth of 18 m, which is more than enough to experience many great dive sites right around our bay, be it sightseeing or one of those delicious food runs for crays or scallops. Interested yet? Great! Here’s what you have to do next: Get a dive medical! This is an essential point, the medical has to be shown before you start your training. There is a list of dive doctors on our website, as far as I know uni still hasn’t replaced the one that left a while back. Express your interest! courses@muuc.org.au Also essential, as we can’t help you if you don’t come forward. The course is run by LUSAC, the Latrobe Uni Subaquatic Club. They charge $450 for the course including all gear, refills, pool sessions, materials etc. Just let me know that you’re interested, send me an email with your contact details (name, email and mobile) and we’ll contact you with more info. The course money needs to be paid in full before you start the course. Now to conclude, a little about the procedure: The course starts Thursday in 2 weeks, that’s August 12, with a theory and pool session. All you need to bring are swim suits and a towel, you’re course materials, if you get them in advance and maybe a pen. The next day is the following Saturday. It’s an all day pool session. The first Open water dives will follow on the Sunday. Then there is the weekend after to round up everything with some boat dives, followed by paperwork, and before you know it you’re fully qualified divers. As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! Cheers Erik MUUC Course Coordinator 2010 General Course Information Open Water Course introduces you to the world of diving, giving you the qualification you need to go diving anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 18m. OW courses start with theory on a weeknight, one full weekend, another theory night and all or part of the following weekend. The April course is full and running, there is a course planned in May, but dates are yet to be decided. Advanced Open Water Course broadens your skill level, allowing you to start diving deep to a maximum of 30m. The AOW course features several specialty dives, such as night dives, wreck dives and deep dives etc. There is no minimum number of dives before you can start your AOW, but it is generally recommended to get familiar with diving first. The Advanced course generally runs over 2 days. There is an AOW course planned for one of the next few weekends, however I'm still waiting for confirmation from my instructor. Any questions, email courses@muuc.org.au. Cheers, Erik Buddy Up! Upcoming Dive Trips More trips being planned so stay tuned, and remember you can always organise a trip yourself! If you've got somewhere you'd like to go but aren't sure where to start, just e-mail the Dive Coordinator. Moreton Island Marine Park Liveaboard Aug 6-8th Looking for some warm water diving?? Some of us have decided to head up to Brisbane for a trip out of the cold to Moreton Island Marine Park for a liveaboard over a weekend in August. It is currently Humpback whale season, and sightings of 20m whales have already been made on dives with Big Cat, the company we are going with!! The cost is $440 dollars which includes: Accommodation, all meals, 8 dives, all air fills, and a chance to win a $150 dive torch (every other person gets one!) If we can get 7 people to go, the cost will drop to around $380 per person!
