Upcoming Dive Trips

More trips being planned so stay tuned, and remember you can always organise a trip yourself! If you've got somewhere you'd like to go but aren't sure where to start, just e-mail the Dive Coordinator.

Western Victoria 12-15 February 2010

We'll be visiting Western Victoria in mid February for some spectacular diving in kelp forest, wrecks, reef, freshwater (maybe) and more. Driving down to Portland on Thursday evening 11th Feb and diving Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (12th to 15th February).

Portland is about 4.5 hours west of Melbourne and has many attractions including diving, surfing, National Parks and more. We'll rent a house there for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights meaning four full days of diving, and what ever else you feel like doing.

Costs for the trip look like being in the vicinity of $200 including all your accomodation, boat dives and fills. The more people that come, the cheaper things like accomodation and towing costs become!

To secure your place, you'll need to make a deposit of $50. We'll be taking deposits this Thursday at the pub, or get in touch directly.

The range of dives includes Snorkelling, OW, AOW, and Cave/Wreck Diver level dives (including some penetration dives in caves for enthusiasts).

If you want to check out what sort of diving there is,

Warrnambool Sub Aqua Club has a few listed:
http://www.wavesncaves.com/sites.htm

As do Professional Diving Services in Portland (or they did, the link might have disappeared):
www.profdivers.com

An idea of what we might do while we're there:
Cape Nelson - wide variety of dives on complex reef 6-30 m.
Cape Bridgewater - similar to Cape Nelson.
Portland Bay - shallower dives
Emily S Wreck
Lawrence Rocks
Warnambool - fantastic dives to 15 m to the west of Thunder Point (big overhangs, swim throughs and more)
Sea Caves near Portland

And if the weather is no good:
Piccaninnie Ponds and Ewen Ponds are just over the SA border, and the Glenelg River not far away either!

There's a variety of boat and shore dives, even opportunities for snorkeling if people don't have their diving qualification.

Hope you come along!

Tasmania Easter 2010
A trip to Tasmania this Easter is currently being planned, cost will be about $600 for the week.  For more information or to register your interest see here.

Underwater Hockey

The best fun you'll have on the bottom of a swimming pool!

The sport is played along the bottom of the pool, where teams of 6 players hold their breath and move a lead puck into goal trays on each end of the pool. You have to push, flick and otherwise manouvering the puck with short, hand-held sticks. See this article for more information on the game.

Club games are played at 8-9pm on Monday nights at the uni Sports Centre pool (on Tin Alley). No prior experience is necessary and all equipment (except mask and snorkel) is provided, so just turn up if you're interested in giving it a try. Sessions generally consist of a half hour warm-up and skills practice session, followed by a half hour game. Make sure you get in by 7:50 to allow time to get changed, select gear, etc.

See the Underwater Hockey page on the website, the Underwater Hockey section of the message boards for discussion, or contact the underwater hockey coordinator if you have any questions.
