Expressions of interest - Tasmania Easter 2010

Postby Andrew H » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:01 pm

Well a new year and new trips to be planned.

I'm interested in Tasmania, Easter 2010. That is this year people and whilst Easter Eggs are apparently appearing in stores right now  it is actually not that far away when planing a dive trip there (Tasmania that is). Especially if we take one or both of our own boats.

Lets get some firm indication of those who would go if planned.

Post in this thread.

Yep, I'll go (and likely to actually have time too!)

Betsy won't tow a boat, but she might be able to haul the compressor down.

I'm interested more in Isle de Phoque, Maria Island and Orford than Eaglehawk, but would probably do a long weekend regardless of destination. Don't think I can get leave for a whole week.

You don't need leave for a whole week. 4 days would get you like... 10 holiday days?

OK.

Cost for car boat and trailer will be in the vicinity if $1424 (return) for the small boat and $1582 for the large boat.

Cost, if trip goes ahead, is to be spread accross each participant.

Deposits for the trip, if it goes ahead, will be required.

How long will the trip be (any dates)? What will the costs for diving and accom be?

Difficult question to answer really.

It depends on how many people are to go as to accomodation a house at Shelly beach will be between $1250 and $850 per week between 8 and 6 people. If transport costs are distributed between each participant, I can't see why ordinary dive contrinutions as for ordinary club dives ad fills from the compressor are not maintained.

Dates, hmm well Easter 2010 is essentially between 2 April and 9 April for the week with 2 April being Good Friday.

An alternative was suggested to contact a dive chater in the area, Island Ocean Charters. Which I will try to do today. If a charters are more convenient and cost effective and we can get the boat to ourselves realatively freely I'd have no objection to doing that. However, a boat trip to Ile Des Phoques from the Island Ocean Charters website is $135 per person . That's a possibly a bit more than the cost to each person for getting out boat there just for one dive.

Hope that helps.

cool, assuming one boat and 8 people, probably looking at around $300 each plus diving@$40p/day for 2 dives.

So lets say a guesstamite of around $600 for the week plus travel?

Sounds like a close enough guesstimate to work with.

It's not a trip, if the trip gets up at all, where people just turn up and dive and go home. Everyone will do their bit of they won't go or someone else can organise and plan it.

Houses in Ordford are booking up already and the Ferry will also start to get tight for larger vehicles as you get closer to Easter.
