Problems creating an account or logging in?

Postby Dave S » Thu Aug 14, 2008 6:34 pm

What to do if you can't create an account.

Here are some common reasons why you may not be able to create an account:
  • You failed to enter the CAPTCHA string. This is a visual test to prevent spam-bots from registering on the forums. You must enter exactly the warped letters displayed on the registration page.
  • You failed to correctly answer the comprehension test. This is another test to block spam-bots. If the answer you gave seems right but wasn't accepted, try an acronym.
  • The email address you are trying to use has already been registered. This means you've already completed the registration. If you can't log in, try the solutions below.

What to do if you have an account but can't log in.

Here are some common reasons why you may not be able to log in:
  • You haven't completed the email verification part of your registration. When you register, you will be sent an email containing a link you must click in order to complete your registration. If you have not received this email or have not followed its instruction, then you will not be able to log in. If you don't remember seeing the email and have never logged in before, check your spam filters and trash to see if it's accidentally been deleted. If you can't find the email, you'll need to contact an administrator.
  • You've forgotten your password. There is a link to get a new password via email on the login page. If you can't remember what email address you registered with or don't have access to that address any more, you'll need to contact an administrator.
  • You've forgotten your username. This is really hard to fix, so please try think of what it might have been. There's a membership list you can view from the links at the top of the page. You can sort the members by joining date, which may help if you remember when you registered.

What to do if you've read the above and are still stuck.

Contact a website admin. When doing so, make sure you include the following information, or they likely won't be able (or possibly willing) to help you:

Username: The username you're trying to log into the forums with. If you haven't gotten as far as registering, you can skip this. If you can't remember your username, give the email address that you registered with instead. (And if you're sending the email from the email address that you registered with, still specify this!)
Problem description: What is the problem, when is it occurring, and what error messages (if any) are you seeing? Are you trying to register, log in for the first time, or log in when you've previously been able to?
Attempted solutions: Let the admin know what the results of the above suggestions where. If you haven't tried them yet, then don't email the admin until you have!

Contact details for the website admin(s) are on the Contact Info link on the front page of the website.
