At the Melbourne University Underwater Club we offer a number of courses for you to receive training as a scuba diver.
Regular Course Offerings:
We offer the following courses regularly throughout the year if you want to join up or take a refresher.
The Scuba Review is a great way to refresh your skills if you haven’t been in the water for a while. Our friendly instructors will help you put your gear together, remember all those essential skills you learned during the course and get you back in teh water stress free.
Pre-requisite: Open Water Certification
Not Included: Gear hire
PADI Open Water
The PADI Open Water course is your first step in exploring the unique environment underwater. Successful completion of this course will certify you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres with a suitably qualified buddy.
Pre-requisite: Ability to tread water for 10 minutes, ability to swim 200m.
Included: Two 2 hour theory sessions, one 6 hour pool/confined water session, 2 days of shore diving, and scuba gear hire for the duration of the course.
PADI Advanced Open Water
The PADI Advanced Open Water course is a great way to enhance your scuba diving skills and complete some of the specialty courses available. Successful completion certifies you to dive to a maximum depth of 30 metres with a suitably qualified buddy.
Pre-requisite: PADI Open Water (or equivalent) and a minimum of 20 logged dives.
Included: Five open water dives.
Not Included: Scuba gear hire.
PADI Navigation Specialty
Underwater navigation is an essential skill for all scuba divers. This specialty through training and practice will help you to navigate through almost any underwater environment and help you get the most from your dives.
Pre-requisite: PADI Open Water (or equivalent), and necessary equipment (reel and compass).
Not Included: Scuba gear hire.
Emergency First Response
The Emergency First Response course provides training in responding to emergencies in Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid). Completion of this course is required to achieve the PADI Rescue Diver certification.
Note that membership of the Melbourne University Underwater Club is not required for this course.
Included: One full day session with lunch provided.
PADI Rescue Diver
The PADI Rescue Diver course will equip you with the skills to prevent and manage dive emergencies, as well as improving your ability to manage your own diving stress and other diving issues. Completion of this course is required to achieve the PADI Divemaster certification
Pre-requisite: PADI Advanced Open Water (including Navigation), Emergency First Response or current CPR certification, and a minimum of 25 logged dives.
Included: One 2 hour theory session, three days of practical exercises.
