Do I have to be a member of MUUC before completing a course?

Yes – Course fees do not include MUUC membership. More information on Membership can be found here and Membership application forms can be found here

I haven’t dived before but want to learn – what do I need to do?

The PADI Open Water course is for you. Successful completion of this course will certify you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres with a suitably qualified buddy.

I’ve already got my PADI Open Water (or equivalent) – what other courses do you offer?

We have a number of courses available to extend your training and gain additional skills.

  1. PADI Advanced Open Water course – successful completion certifies you to dive to a maximum depth of 30 metres with a suitably qualified buddy.
  2. Emergency First Response course  – successful completion of this Course is required to achieve Rescue Diver certification (see below) and will equip you to provide basic first aid.
  3. PADI Rescue Diver course – successful completion of this Course will equip you with skills to manage dive accidents as well as tools to manage your own diving stress and other diving issues.
  4. Other courses – MUUC will run other courses such as wreck, nitrox and Divemaster and facilitate courses with other organisations such as CDAA upon request. If you are interested in a PADI course that is not listed here, please email the Course Coordinator.

How do I enrol for a course?

Enrolment information for each course is described on the applicable course page. Generally speaking you will need to review the course pre-requisites, complete an enrolment form and PADI statement of risk and liability and submit along with your course deposit to the Course Coordinator on any Thursday night between 7-8pm at the MUUC shed.

Help, I am confused by some of the definitions!

Pre-requisite – minimum certification and/or experience a student must have
Required equipment – equipment a student must have in order to undertake the course
Gear hire – standard scuba equpment such as BCD, tanks, regulator, fins, wetsuit
Membership – Melbourne University Underwater Club membership (student or non-student)
